The Flood (2023) directed by Brandon Slagle opens with a tornado scene of a violent storm in Louisiana. In the context of flooding and windy rain, a comfortable feeling comes to the local jail, forcing the entire police room to seek shelter in the small police station. However, the secret to speeding up is a swarm of alligators waiting to flood in, transforming this into a bloody battlefield. The main character - Sheriff Jo Newman played by Nicky Whelan - and "no ordinary" characters such as Russell Cody (Casper Van Dien) and Angelo Cooper (Bear Williams) are forced to cooperate to survive. The scene of flooding, weak electricity and thirsty crocodiles creates a tense, dramatic atmosphere typical of a โ€œcarnivore horror movieโ€.

The acting of the cast, although not up to the artistic level, is still enough to create an emotional response from the audience โ€“ fear, fear mixed with a bit of entertainment. Technically, the film was criticized a lot for its CGI effects and โ€œsloppyโ€ and predictable plot. Many reviewers rated the film as a cheap version of Jaws or Crawl, with dangerous and vague situations. Some people think that the film is only โ€œpassableโ€ when watched with friends, accompanied by beer and wine and without high expectations.

However, the entertainment aspect of The Flood is still positively received by the audience. The iHorror article commented that this is โ€œa wild ride full of adrenalineโ€, with the action scenes of the police and fishermen facing off against the crocodiles
Rex Reed of Observer also affirmed that the film โ€œkeeps the audience from falling asleepโ€ and is โ€œan interesting choice in the midst of the bomb seasonโ€
In terms of personal feelings, The Flood belongs to the B-movie genre following the monster/disaster motif. If you are looking for a deep, artistic product, this is not the ideal choice. But if you want a simple movie, not too serious in logic, with the goal of faster entertainment, bringing a sense of proximity interspersed with clean action, The Flood still has a clear path.

In summary, The Flood (2023) is a disaster-action โ€œpartyโ€ with elements: water supply, prisoners confronting the police and ferocious crocodiles - enough to wrap up in 91 minutes of adrenaline. The acting is not excellent, the CGI has many shortcomings and the plot is quite sketchy, but it is the natural soul, not trying to be profound, that creates the right entertainment color. If you love "killer animal movies" that are not bland, then this is a movie worth watching to entertain an evening.
