Rage (Vietnamese title: Rage) is an American action-psychological film, released in 2014 with the participation of famous actor Nicolas Cage in the lead role. The film was directed by Paco Cabezas and brings a dark story about the criminal past, redemption and the price to pay for violence.
The film revolves around Paul Maguire, a former criminal who has washed his hands of the sword to build a new peaceful life with his wife and children. Once the leader of a notorious gang, Paul is now a successful businessman, living a normal life and raising a teenage daughter named Caitlin. However, his sinful past does not let go easily. One day, Caitlin is suddenly kidnapped and later found brutally murdered. The pain and loss cause Paul to fall into the abyss of rage and despair.
Unconvinced of the police's effectiveness, Paul decides to investigate on his own. He reunites with his old gang mates and embarks on a bloody quest for revenge. However, the deeper he digs into the investigation, the more shocking truths he discovers: his daughter's death was not simply a revenge from the past, but also related to deep secrets within his own family.
The highlight of Rage lies not only in the intense action scenes but also in the psychological element. The film delves into the inner turmoil of a father who has done wrong, now facing the consequences of his own actions. Nicolas Cage brilliantly portrays a man torn between remorse, anger and loss. His performance brings depth to a character who seems to be simply an avenger.
Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Rage is still a must-see for those who love action and drama mixed with psychological elements. The film raises big questions about violence, redemption, and whether the past can truly forgive people, or will it forever haunt them like an inescapable shadow.
